EL SALVADOR is known as the industrial town of western Misamis Oriental. It has two huge industries under its fold – Asia Brewery and Universal Robina Corporation. On one hand, Asia Brewery makes Beer na Beer and other tasty alcoholic beverages. On the other hand, Universal Robina Corporation concocts delicious snacks. These two industries provide employment to the residents for many decades already and boost income of the town government through taxes.

There is one tourist attraction though that has put El Salvador recently or should I say finally in the world spotlight. It is the Divine Mercy Shrine. This particular shrine houses the world’s tallest Divine Mercy statue. It is so tall that it can be seen from ships passing in the distant Macajalar Bay to the north.

Passengers in ferries with monoculars or binoculars can be struck in awe gazing at the magnificence of the statue. But the experience up close is even more beautiful. Recently, visitors have testified that the water running in the area is said to be miraculous. There are daily worship services offered in the area and visitors have come wide from as far as Europe and even the Americas. Believe, it will be soon when El Salvador will become the religious capital of northern Mindanao.
