Cagayan de Oro Travel Guides

Cagayan de Oro is the gateway to Mindanao and even though it is not the largest city in the island, it stands proud as the most progressive one. That is why then Mayor Vicente Emano coined Cagayan de Oro as a city in bloom, in blossom and in bloom. The maverick mayor even transformed the city’s center known as Divisoria into a European-style night market and café every weekend.

But Cagayan de Oro’s reputation started way before that. Cagayan de Oro is also coined as a city of golden friendship and foreigners have testified that this is true. According to visiting foreigners here, Kagay-anons have been known to be hospitable.

This is exactly true especially during the yearly feast of St. Augustine, the city’s acknowledged patron saint. (Majority of Kagay-anons are Catholics and even civic society chips in for the largely religious celebration.) Just take a look at the city’s lovely beauties which are proclaimed an eve before the celebration and one will find out that it is indeed true.

There are a dozen flights daily from Manila to Cagayan de Oro. There is an airport about 35 kilometers nearby which is undergoing construction and flights are expected to increase three-fold once the airport becomes operational by late 2011.
